17.2 miles and Lucy and I were done. I had planned on getting through Summit but a few detours around dirt roads and having to push my entourage up the hills made our first day long and tiring. Fortunately, the temp was cool and the sky overcast.
We ended up getting a ride the last 5 miles to a friends house where we camped in her yard. During the drive, it started raining and only let up long enough for me to get camp set up. It rained all night and I found out I can't use the tarp as a ground cover AND rain fly. Water puddled in one corner where the tarp was folded over and leaked into the tent. Fortunately, the leak was only at my feet and my sleeping bag kept me warm even with the wet spot.
